World Cup 2026

The World Cup Is Changing — Here’s How to Experience It With Your Child

The World Cup is evolving this summer… and it’s a big shift.

For the first time in history, the tournament is expanding from 32 teams to 48 teams. That means more countries, more matches, and more global representation than ever before.

On the surface, that sounds exciting—and it is.

But for families, it can also feel like… a lot.

So the real question becomes:

How do you actually experience the World Cup in a way that’s meaningful for your child?

Previously, the World Cup had: 32 teams 8 groups of 4 Top 2 teams advanced to a Round of 16.

Now, the structure expands to: 48 teams 12 groups of 4. Teams advance into a Round of 32 knockout stage.

    In simple terms:

👉 There are more games than ever before 👉 More teams to follow 👉 More opportunities—but also more noise

    And that’s where intention matters.

The Goal Isn’t to Watch Everything. Trying to watch every game is like trying to drink the ocean.

You don’t need more content…You need a better way to engage with it. Because when done right, the World Cup becomes more than entertainment—it becomes a learning environment.

3 Simple Ways to Experience the World Cup as a Family

    1. Follow a Team

    Pick your favorite countries.

It could be your heritage, your child’s favorite colors, or even a random draw.

Now every match has context. Now your child is emotionally invested.

This is how the game begins to mean something.

    2. Start at the Knockout Stage

If your schedule is tight, don’t stress the group stage. Jump in at the Round of 32. From here on out: Win = advance Lose = go home It’s simple. It’s intense. It’s easy for kids to follow.

    3. Watch Highlights Together

Not every family has time for full matches—and that’s okay. Watching highlights still gives your child: Exposure to different playing styles Recognition of players and moments A feel for the rhythm of the game. Consistency matters more than volume. Make It Interactive (This Changes Everything). This is the part most people miss. Don’t just watch the World Cup… Track it. Predict it. Engage with it.

I did this with my own kids.

We got poster boards and created a bracket poster together, followed the results, and suddenly every game had purpose. They weren’t just watching—they were thinking, predicting, and connecting.

The World Cup is one of the rare moments where the entire world plays at once—and your child gets a front-row seat. When you guide that experience just a little…

It builds:

Awareness, Decision-making, and Connection to the game

And most importantly…

It builds their own relationship with soccer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a league program?

J4kicks offers soccer classes and camps where kids come to learn, have fun, and play soccer weekly. Our motto is 'Play, Fun, Learn.' We do offer our 5v5 program in Vacaville that consists of a training day + match day.

What are the gear requirments for the classes?

Gear is as simple as the sport! We recommend shin guards and soccer cleats, but you’re welcome to start with whatever your child already has. Just make sure they wear comfortable, active clothing and shoes suitable for running and movement.

Please avoid softball, baseball, or football cleats — those are designed for different sports and can actually slow down your child’s soccer development.

What happens if it rains?

We have gaps in between our seasonal sessions in case we need to cancel due to weather. We simply extend the class to makeup any canceled classes. The cities parks dept. will make the call to close fields. You should have joined your cities BAND group to get instant notifications!

I registerd for a class but not part of the BAND group yet. How do I get in the group?

We use BAND to communicate with you all things Just4kicks and programs. Click on the BAND group to join below (we recommend you join with your smart phone)
